150g (1 cup) plain flour
110g (1/2 cup) brown sugar
40g (1/2 cup) desiccated coconut
125g butter, melted
2 x 395g cans Nestlé Sweetened Condensed Milk
100g butter, extra, chopped
1/3 cup (80ml) golden syrup
200g block Nestlé Plaistowe Dark Chocolate
1 tbsp vegetable oil
3 x 50g pkts Nestlé Smarties
method
- Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan forced. Lightly grease a 18cm x 28cm slice pan and line with baking paper.
- Combine the flour, sugar and coconut in a bowl. Add the melted butter and mix well. Press mixture firmly into base of prepared pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Set aside to cool.
- Combine sweetened condensed milk, extra butter and golden syrup in a medium saucepan. Stir over low heat for 4 to 5 minutes or until smooth. Pour over base. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. Cool.
- To melt the chocolate, place dark chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave, uncovered, on MEDIUM (50%) for 1 minute, then stir. Repeat process in 30 second intervals until melted. Add the oil and stir until smooth. Pour evenly over slice. Refrigerate for 5 minutes or until chocolate is partially set. Arrange Smarties over slice in a diagonal pattern. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. Serve, cut into squares.
